Nadav Lapid
Israeli director, born in Tel Aviv in 1975.
A poet mature beyond his years, Nadav Lapid wrote over a hundred poems between the ages of 4 and 7. Twenty years later, after graduating with a degree in philosophy and history from the University of Tel Aviv, he launched his career as a sports journalist. In 2002, he published his first collection of short stories, Dance Again. He then began film studies at the Sam Spiegel School in Jerusalem, where he directed three short films. His final-year film, the renowned Emile's Girlfriend, was presented at La Cinéfondation in Cannes in 2007 and released in theatres in 2008. In residency at La Cinéfondation in 2009, he wrote the script of his first feature film, Policeman, which won an award at Locarno and at numerous international festivals. His second film, The Kindergarten Teacher, was released in 2014, a few months after its selection for the International Critics’ Week in Cannes. His short film, Why? was in competition at the 2015 Berlinale. Ahed's knee is presented in competition at the Cannes Films Festival (2021).
